Difficulties Experienced by University Students in Overseas Volunteer Work

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the difficulties in overseas volunteer activities experienced by university students.
Methods: The participants in the study were students from two universities located in P and K cities, one male and 9 female students. Data collection was conducted in face to face interview from October 2020 to February 2021. The data were analyzed by phenomenological method suggested by Giorgi.
Results: Five themes were extracted from the raw data, along with 13 Subthemes. The five themes were “difficulty in pre-preparation in parallel with study”, “uncomfortable relationship with team members”, “confusing and chaotic activities”, “confusion due to cultural differences”, and “living abroad outside the comfort of everyday life".
Conclusion: The results of this study can be used as meaningful data for developing policies and programs that can alleviate the difficulties university students experience in overseas volunteer activities in the future.
